Back

Deadlift

Starting position

  • Feet hip-width apart, bar over the middle of the feet, close to the shins.
  • Grip with a straight back, hips higher than the knees, shoulders over the bar.
  • Take a deep breath and brace your core hard.

Execution

  • Pull the bar up close to the body, extending legs and hips at the same time.
  • Stand tall at the top, squeeze the glutes, don't lean back.
  • Set the bar down under control in reverse order.

Common mistakes

  • Rounded back, especially the lower back.
  • Letting the bar drift away from the body.
  • Shooting the hips up first and then pulling only with the back.
